In southwest Michigan, Prevent 2 Protect will serve the Calhoun Intermediate School District (ISD) in partnership with Summit Pointe Community Mental Health and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. Partnering with local school districts, law enforcement, and mental health professionals to provide comprehensive services for individual students and the communities in which they live.

Intensive Support Team
Adam Royer, LMSW
With a strong educational background and extensive experience in social work, Adam serves as the dedicated Calhoun Regional Case Manager for the Prevent 2 Protect program. Adam holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, with a minor in psychology, from Central Michigan University, and a Master of Social Work from Western Michigan University.
Adam’s career in social work is marked by a commitment to supporting individuals across various settings. For 14 years, Adam was a school social worker in several educational systems, working with students from preschool to age 25. From 2019 to 2021, he provided private counseling to all age ranges at Comforts of Home Counseling, offering both in-person and teletherapy sessions.
During Adam’s second-year field placement as a school social worker internist in Calhoun Intermediate School District, he provided individual and group therapy, counseling, and evaluations for students across various schools. Before this position, Adam served as a Teen Parent Case Worker for Family & Children Services, connecting teen parents to community resources and advocating through a person-centered approach.
Adam holds a clinical license in Master of Social Work and is a certified CPI System (non-violent crisis intervention) Trainer. He is an active member of the Michigan Association of School Social Workers. With Prevent 2 Protect, Adam uses his considerable experience and dedication to social work to support the well-being of individuals and families, ensuring they receive the necessary resources and interventions to thrive.
Traci Austin, BA
Traci Austin is a dedicated mentor and brings a wealth of experience and insight to the role with a 24-year career in law enforcement with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department. During her time at the KCSD, Traci held the title of the first and only female firearm instructor and was the field training officer for both civilians and deputies. Traci’s commitment to community safety can be seen through her achievements in higher education, having earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from American Public University.
Traci’s goal was to work with a team of like-minded professionals with the mission of reducing targeted violence and fostering safe environments. In order to further support the communities she serves, Traci is pursuing a master’s degree in forensic psychology and hopes to integrate those principles with her law enforcement experience. Her extensive background and ongoing education uniquely positions Traci to make significant contributions to Provent 2 Protect, enhancing strategies for violence prevention and community protection.
