Jason Hutchens

Jason Hutchens is the Area Sales Manager, for Motorola’s Smart Public Safety Solutions Team. As an attorney with experience as associate professor, private sector, and a seasoned public safety practitioner in municipal and state government, Jason provides a unique perspective to help agencies and departments tackle their specific public safety challenges.

Jason began his career with the Hudson Institute as a Research Fellow and as a partner with the city of Indianapolis working to combat violent crime by the use of data driven strategies for law enforcement. As early as 2003 Jason was already making a name for himself within public safety by winning the United States Department of Justice (USDOJ) National Achievement Award for the Most Innovative Use of Technology in Law Enforcement. It was during this time he set the stage for a forward-thinking career by understanding the interconnectedness of policy, technology and processes within the criminal justice field.

Jason then held executive roles within public safety helping lead the State of Indiana in the areas of law enforcement and criminal justice issues including his tenure as Chief Deputy Director of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI).  ICJI is the primary planning agency for the state’s criminal and juvenile justice, traffic safety, and victim services endeavors.  While there Jason was responsible for overseeing the Institute’s public policy efforts, managing the Institute’s programmatic and fiscal responsibilities as the State Administering Agency (SAA) of federal grant funds, and coordinating research efforts with the Justice Research and Statistics Association affiliated Statistical Analysis Center (SAC).

Additionally, Jason served as the Director of the Planning and Assessment Division at the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.  Jason continued his thought leadership, managing IT projects and planning developments in key policy areas such as cyber security, critical infrastructure, data interoperability and integration with the State EOC and Fusion Cetner – areas he continues to refine with customers at Motorola today.  During his time in Homeland Security Jason served as a member of the agency executive staff and as a member of the policy group during any state disaster emergency response or activation and maintained a Secret Level clearance issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

In his current role as a member of Motorola’s Smart Public Safety Solutions team, Jason helps law enforcement agencies identify their problems, prioritize their goals and maximize their investment. By listening to customers’ challenges and helping them understand the underlying public safety technology ecosystem involved, he is able to structure a solution that fits the agency’s needs that focuses on mission performance and their business outcomes. In this way, Jason not only provides customers with innovative solutions, he helps them drive process change so they can continue to grow and adapt in the years to come.
